Sarah Palin stumped by third grader, doesn't know what the vice president does

She's contending for arguably the second most powerful title in the country - if not the world. But it seems Sarah Palin could use a brush-up on the vice-president's job description.
Asked by an elementary school student what a vice president does, Republican candidate Sarah Palin responded that the vice president is the president's "team mate" but also "runs the Senate" and "can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes."
While aimed at a typical 8-year-old, Palin's explanations oversimplify the U.S. Constitution's definition of the duties of the vice president and don't match the office's traditional role in Senate activities.

The vice president's main duty is to replace the president if the president dies, resigns, is removed from office or can no longer carry out his or her duties for other reasons. The Constitution names the vice president as the president of the Senate but allows the vice president to cast a vote only to break a tie.
The vice president, as a member of the executive branch of the government, has no official role in developing legislation or determining how it is presented to or debated by the Senate, which is part of the legislative branch. In all meaningful ways, the leader of the majority party runs the Senate.
Traditionally, the vice president appears in the Senate for ceremonial events and in case of a tie vote. Although the vice president can preside over the Senate, vice presidents have left that day-to-day chore to senators themselves. In the past, each president has determined the role of the vice president in an administration.
The subject of the vice president's duties came up as Palin sat for an interview with KUSA-TV in Denver, which has a feature called "Question from the Third Grade." The interviewer asked, "Brandon Garcia wants to know, 'What does the vice president do?'"
"That's a great question, Brandon, and a vice president has a really great job, because not only are they there to support the president's agenda, they're like the team member, the team mate to that president," Palin said.
"But also, they're in charge of the United States Senate, so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom. And it's a great job and I look forward to having that job," she said.

the night is young.
hello.
so i just finished watching the brandon vera fight. im glad to say that he had a few dope hits on the guy... but at the same time i wished he followed through more. im happy to say that he landed his penguin kick really well. hella funny...cause i just learned that kick at my martial arts class on tuesday. good stuff. gooo penguin kicks!
on another note, i fixed up my igoogle page. i love pandora! haha...the mix they made me was simply on point. it gives me that feel good feeling. i feel like i made this list or something on my playlist for my ipod. but in essence, i didnt. in a way, they read my mind.
friday was a blast! i had so much fun with dope artists...even though we were all working on our projects. it felt good to surround me around folks who are artistically inclined. it not only inspires me..but it challenges myself to be on top of my art. my goal is to have an art show...one of these days i will.
i miss a lot of things lately... i guess the movie nick and nora triggered a lot of those memories that led to me missing things, people and places. btw, the movie was super cute..had its corny moments..but i thought it was cute. back to why ive been missing things + more lately is because im walking through my life patiently for me to become successful. sounds strange right? but, ive decided that if i walk through my life, it will be longer and more meaningful rather than short and fast. not to say that short and fast lives arent meaningful...im just saying that im taking each day as a step closer to success. i have one year (more or less left) of college. then im off to the "real" world. truthfully, i have mentioned that ive tasted the "real" world a few times...and i truly miss it. i miss having my own place really...i miss all my friends in ny and sd. also, i miss my friends in the bay...weve come so busy that we squeeze each other in when we can. my friends are doing big things and im soooo happy for them. it amazes me that my friends are super bright folks who make the most out of their lives. its great to know that i am a part of their lives. also, i miss ny commuting...it was tiring at times but it was well worth it. i learned so much in ny...and commuting was a big part of being independent. imma list off a few things that i always miss about ny:
- my train ride into the city across the bridge (NQD lines)
- my study sessions at cafes that i love...i forgot the names but i know where they are at.
- juicy buns and chinatown ice cream factory
- philippine forum
- beautiful/attractive women and men everywhere
- stepping on leaves during the fall seasons
- snow..i love snow...yes there were times that i disliked it because it was super cold. but without a doubt i still love it.
- grand central. rockefeller center. soho.
- food shopping.
those are the only things that come to my mind right now..there are sooo much more.
ok..night is getting late. ok not soo late. but yea, its late.
good night.

its been awhile
so, ive been busy. school is beginning to kick ass... i have a lot of things to do within the next two weeks. blah. its all good though... im learning and its refreshing to know that this is what i want to be focusing in on...which is sociology, more so concentrated on the aspects of social work. with that in hand, ive been thinking about my future and how close it is for me to graduate. i mean, i have about a year or so left.. but truthfully i know it will come real fast... im 23. i will be 24 in a matter of five months. it also puts me in check in what i want out of certain aspects of my life. i havent really talked about relationships a lot on my blog, but i find this as a a safe place for me to vent.
so, with my past relationship things went well, had its flaws here and there...but overall things were great. we talked a lot about our futures together and how we wanted things to be. it was nice to know that we could talk about it openly. i trusted him with my feelings...it felt real good. unfortunately, the relationship did not last due to problems we had and he felt that it wasnt healthy. it wasnt healthy, but i always wanted to try and push things into something positive. sometimes, i just dont get what i want. but im glad that things happen for the better..and things definitely got better. i became stronger...more focused about what i want. which is real good...
my current state of mind exists around a few priorities(no particular order as they always change and evolve at many points of my life):
-health
-family
-friends
-education (college and outside of college, constant learning - progress)
-earl (my current relationship)
i have a few flaws and insecurities that i need to work on... i gotta keep checking myself to stay true to myself and/or REAL.

bang bang bang. good night.

culinary classes + pilates
so, my homegirl kristia and i were in my car going back to her place this one day.. i hella remember hearing that one song by jaheim - ive changed. hella funny..check out these lyrics:
Pull out the fine wine glasses
Dinner in bed (went and took some culinary classes)
Gotta stay sexy for you baby
Tighten up my body, workin' on my ghetto pilates
I'm not goin' out tonight (tonight)
We can hit the sofa,
cuddle up, satellite service
Ohh baby whatever, let me accommodate ya
Is there anything you like for me to change
hahahaha...sorry we were hella cracking up..we were like i like the idea of taking culinary classes but i dont know about all that pilates.. its all good. whatever works for you jaheim!
so, i started doing some activities with the youth at the center. im happy to say i had a great turn out. imma see the youth again tomorrow and do some more activities. they really enjoyed it and i hope to grow with a lot more. on my artist collective note, i really need to start sketching some ideas that i want to put together for the project. i have a meeting coming up and i need to show something that i have been working on. other than that, i changed a couple of classes and simmered down to 12 units total this quarter. all sociology major based classes...that all have me intrigued and learning constantly, which i am very grateful for.
my weekend went well, did hella errands on saturday. helped out kristia with her "prends and pamily party" which turned out to be a hit! i had sooo much fun. then on sunday, i had lunch with the fam in pacifica. watched the CHARGERS vs. raiders game... and the CHARGERS killed it within a matter of 2 minutes. LT got his touchdown in and the whole team came through in the end. after the game, i helped get some groceries for dinner. had some bomb dinner! omg...here is the menu:
hummus with pita bread
mixed greens with a asian vinaigrette dressing
salmon with salt, pepper and lemon
balsamic butterfly chicken
chocolate lava cake paired with fresh raspberries and a light coating of powdered sugar
i participated as a "sous chef"...it was so much fun but truthfully it got tiring. i like plating. its more fun making the food look pretty. other than that, i had a great time..learned some good tips when cutting chicken and preparing the grill.
today i will be back on my workout plan... five - six days a week. i feel as though im getting chubby again. i like being thick sometimes..but not too thick. oh, and im debating if i should get a season pass for northstar and sierra this year. my homie hella wants me to get one. maybe...just maybe.
dope book: brooklyn street art (it was a gift)

look...more pikachus! i feel as though they are getting popular.

obama + filipino community
Obama's sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, shares a message with the Filipino American community about her excitement for Barack Obama's candidacy for President. The AAPI community has a critical role to play in this election and by getting involved in this election we can bring about real change in our country.
